This accessibility statement applies to www.corse-pc.org.uk

This website is run by Corse Parish Council.  We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.  For example, that means you should be able to:

•          change colours, contrast levels and fonts

•          zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen

•          navigate most of the website using just a keyboard

•          navigate most of the website using speech recognition software

•          listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.  AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

•          you cannot easily modify the line height or spacing of text

Technical information about this website’s accessibility:

Corse Parish Council is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is almost fully compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard.  The ‘non-compliances’, are listed below.

The website is built using a WordPress theme which cannot easily be made to fully adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guideline version 2.1 AA standard.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

We may have some scanned PDF documents on our website e.g. our Registers of Interest for the Parish Councillors.  Scanned PDF documents do not comply with the Accessibility Regulations, but these documents can be provided in an alternative format or on alternative media, on request.  This fails WCAG 4.2.1.  We hope to resolve this by 1st May 2021.

Disproportionate burden

Navigation and accessing information

There’s no way to skip the repeated content in the page header (for example, a ‘skip to main content’ option) when using screen readers.

We’ve assessed the cost of fixing the issues with navigation and accessing information.  We believe that doing so now would be a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations.  We will make another assessment in approximately a year’s time, likely to be in March 2022.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services.  By June 2021, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We plan to improve accessibility on this website by:

Regularly monitoring the accessibility of our website and making our PDF documents (created after 22 September 2018) as accessible as possible.
